The Communications Director of NeW

My name is Rebecca Malone, and I am from Wilmington, Delaware. I am a junior at AU, in the SIS Global Scholars Program, and I am majoring in International Studies with concentrations in U.S. Foreign Policy and National Security. In addition to my major, I am also pursuing a Political Science minor and an undergraduate translation certificate in French. This summer, I will be studying abroad at Cambridge University, where I will be taking classes on foreign policy and conducting research about the U.S. intelligence community. During my free time, I enjoy reading outside on the quad, sharing coffee with friends, exploring new neighborhoods in DC, and dining out at new restaurants! Some of my favorite places to eat include Il Canale, Mai Thai, and Das Ethiopian in Georgetown, as well as Rajaji, Tryst, and Open City in Adam’s Morgan. I look forward to seeing new and returning faces in the fall!

The Treasurer of NeW

Hi, my name is Kiah Morrison, and I am currently a sophomore at American University majoring in Political Science.  Born and raised in a small town near York, Pennsylvania, I was very excited to begin a new chapter of life in the District.

At AU, I am a member of the School of Public Affairs Leadership Program, and I am the Finance Director of the Kennedy Political Union.  I am the treasure of NeW at AU and Phi Alpha Delta, the professional pre-law fraternity.  I am a member of College Republicans and a field representative for the American Enterprise Institute Executive Council on campus.  This spring, I interned for the United States Senate, and this summer, I am serving as a legislative intern for the Federal Public Policy Department of the National Federation of Independent Business.

I enjoy exploring the city, attending events in the area, and trying new restaurants.  I also enjoy binge-watching House of Cards, traveling, reading, running, and cooking.

The Secretary of NeW

Hello! My name is Alexandra Torres, and I am from a small town in sunny, Southern California.  I am a sophomore at American University and I am double majoring in Political Science and Public Relations and Strategic Communications.  I am a member of College Republicans and a brother of Alpha Phi Omega, the community service fraternity.  During the spring, I interned in the United States House of Representatives.

I love going on adventures and discovering new things.  I love country music and all things nautical, and I am a professional Netflix binge-watcher.  I enjoy watching funny puppy videos on Youtube, and I also like to play the piano during my free time.  My favorite city is Washington D.C. and I get to enjoy all that the District has to offer.

The VP of NeW

Hey there! My name is Cassandra Peña, and I'm from the city of El Paso in the greatest state of Texas. I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Comparative Politics and Journalism. During my first year in DC I discovered that the best study spot in the District is the Library of Congress, and the best time to go monumenting is at night.  During my free time, I enjoy coffee at Dean and DeLuca in Georgetown, visiting the National Gallery of Art, and exploring all that DC has to offer.  Enjoy the rest of your summer; see you soon.

Welcome to Something NeW

In September 2004, a group of women at UVA founded a book club for conservative women. This book club came to be known as the Network of Enlightened Women.  Within a year, NeW spread to other college campuses throughout the country.  Today, NeW is a national organization located in Washington D.C.

The Network of Enlightened Women at American University (NeW at AU) is a group of strong, passionate and conservative women.  NeW at AU aims to cultivate intellectual thought and diversity among women on campus.  We encourage the women of NeW to explore and understand important topics of the present pertaining to university, domestic, and global issues and form their own ideas about them.

The ladies of NeW create a strong community of women of who build each other up and support one another. We hope that you will join us in our movement to encourage effective discussion and intellectual thought at AU.

Here are a few pictures of fun events from last year.
